How to deal with coat change?
Hey, unfortunately the end of summer is coming and we are looking forward to autumn with a slight sadness… With climate change, the change of the coat of our pets begins.
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Hair everywhere, daily cleaning with a robot, vacuum cleaner, constant combing with magic brushes and of course, magical cosmetics. There is certainly something to share, we understand you very well. After a long day at work and numerous tasks with which you are overwhelmed, this is most likely your last concern…
In recent months, the Divus team has received many inquiries in this regard. The topic is vast and painful among all owners. Unfortunately, it very often becomes an unsolvable problem if we do not take the necessary actions. Therefore, we have prepared useful information and invaluable tips that will help you deal with this problem in the long run.
Why do dogs change their coat?
The hair or hair of all mammals consists of the protein keratin and dead skin cells. It grows from follicles in its inner layer. The follicles have a sebaceous gland associated with them, which keeps the skin elastic and the hairs smooth.
Most dogs have three types of coat: undercoat, protective hair, and whiskers. The undercoats are located closest to the skin and grow in groups of one follicle. They have a soft, fluffy appearance and protect the skin from cold weather. In contrast, protective hairs are longer, have a harder structure and a larger diameter. They protect the skin from superficial injuries and form an additional insulating layer.
A dog’s fur grows in seasonal cycles. When it reaches a certain length, it begins to fall – a process known as molting. It is determined by the duration of daylight as well as the ambient temperature. Regardless of the color or structure of the hair, it is an excellent barometer of your dog’s overall health.
A well-fed and well-groomed coat requires constant care and a proper diet.
Proper care
How to keep your dog’s coat shiny and nourished?
Proper care of your pet’s hair and skin is an extremely important factor for a healthy and radiant coat. Some breeds such as the Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier, Shitzu and Malteser require professional grooming and grooming. But if your dog has short or medium hair, you can easily do it yourself at home.
It is recommended to bathe your friend 1-2 times a month with shampoo, conditioner and mask, as well as comb him often every few days. Regular combing is a prevention against various skin infections. With a tangled coat, dead hairs become a great breeding ground for various fungi and microorganisms. Also, unkempt coat can also disrupt your dog’s thermoregulation.
Suitable diet
Is your dog’s diet balanced, healthy and complete? If his coat is matte, has no shine and falls out constantly, this is the first sign and alarm signal that he lacks nutrients, vitamins and essential fatty acids. Fur and claws are the least important for physical survival in both humans and dogs, so they are the first to suffer.
A number of studies in recent years prove the deteriorating health and poor physical shape of our pets due to improper feeding and breeding. This is the reason why more and more veterinarians choose the raw BARF diet.

Most commercially prepared dry foods are high in cereals such as corn and wheat, which are unnatural for our pets.
One of the main disadvantages of the kibble is its low moisture content, which leads to constant dehydration. The first sign of this is the condition of the skin, as it contains 70% water. Its fat, water balance and elasticity are indicators of the healthy status of the body. Unfortunately, no matter how much water your friend takes, if he eats kibble, he fails to hydrate himself well enough.
In addition, the granule is poor in useful nutrients, and dyes, chemicals, as well as the risk of mold are harmful to any organism. Even the added synthetic vitamins have a negative rather than a positive effect because they put an additional burden on the body. On the other hand, low-meat and grain-based foods do not contain the necessary proteins and fats to take care of a healthy coat. This method of eating leads to serious digestive, skin and health problems.
If you are still feeding kibble, but you want your dog to be healthy, you need to make a general change!
Find out thetruth about granules and their harm.
During heat treatment, food changes its molecular composition, and water and fat-soluble vitamins are destroyed. Even if you prepare your dog’s menu at home, if it is not raw, it loses much of its nutritional value.
It is in the way of nutrition that lies the key to good health, excellent physical shape and shiny, nourished coat. Instead of packaged dry food rich in carbohydrates, choose a complete raw diet rich in protein.
Why BARF?
A healthy and balanced menu for your pet is a prevention against hair loss. Since ancient times, raw food has been the natural evolutionary diet of dogs and their ancestors. The BARF method provides all the nutrients, such as meat, organs, bones, fruits, vegetables, oils, which your pet needs. A raw food diet hasmany benefits for your dog, but the first physical change you’ll notice is in the coat. Its prevention is carried out by improving the skin barrier. And this happens with the intake of unprocessed foods rich in moisture.
The raw menu contains mainly proteins, fats and a minimum amount of carbohydrates. And the composition of the hair consists of long protein strands and when we nourish it with protein, it becomes strong, healthy, shiny and falls out significantly less.
Omega fatty acids should be present in your dog’s menu. They are essential fats that his body cannot produce and are therefore obtained from food. In addition to supporting the nervous system and building new cells, they are one of the main elements that take care of the thick, soft coat and hydrated skin. Omega fatty acids are an important component in various skin allergies, as they soothe itching and have anti-inflammatory effects. Fish is a major source of omega and is an integral part of your dog’s complete diet. Unlike salmon, which has a negative effect on the anal glands, sardine is the most suitable sea fish for your pet. We at Divus carefully select each ingredient in our recipes and use only high-quality raw materials from proven manufacturers.

Zinc is another essential mineral that is a critical element for skin and coat health. If your dog is zinc deficient, you’ll notice cracked pads, severe hair loss, and dry, scaly, thickened skin. Natural sources of zinc include red meat, bones, fish, egg yolk, spinach, flaxseed, chickpeas, and brown rice. Additional fish oil, vitamins or supplements will certainly improve the diet and support your dog’s skin barrier.

For the last 2 years, more than 3000 responsible farmers have voted confidence in us and have chosen the Bulgarian BARF manufacturer Divus:
Savina Tsukeva: “The best food experience for my dog! Shiny skin, small and structured , energetic and happy mood! I will only recommend this five-star meal for your four – legged loved ones! “
Yonko Grigorov: “I highly recommend, I was skeptical because it is a Bulgarian brand … I tried with a brand from another country, a big mistake in this food you can see meat, vegetables, fruits …. the smell of touching everything is obvious that it is made of meat …. My dog is almost 7 years old. For these years he has always had problems with fur, he has always been fed some of the most expensive and quality kibble, however, the fur fell out, it came to 2 burst ulcers .. Then I decided to try barf, I took another type for 2-3 months …. no difference in dog and fur …. I took DIVUS in less than a month, the fur stopped falling out and the dog has no proproblems with the stomach.. Until before that, there was constant heartburn …. so I highly recommend giving it a try and you’ll see for yourself…”
Victor Stoilov: “For a long time I have been looking for a quality BARF for my dog – the difference before/after is from the ground to the sky. His fur is much nicer, he got into better shape, he is obviously more muscular already, and the problems with disliking certain granules and then stomach problems… completely disappeared. And no, the dog does not become aggressive and will not eat you. It is exactly the same as it has always been.”
Gergana Makaveeva: “We have had a German shepherd for 4 years and over the years we have changed a lot of types of food (kibble). The reason was that you just stop the dog from wanting to eat it. Since we switched to Divus, things have changed 180 degrees. The food is selected in such a way that it contains everything you need. As a bonus, we got a satisfying and visibly well-fed dog, shiny fur, a small amount of feces with a much weaker smell. Not to miss the fact that he got into his old form and lost 3 kg.”
Petya Peneva: “Top service and high quality food! Effie loves all tastes and a healthy and happy dog, with a shiny coat Thank YOU!”
