FAQ

WHY SHOULD DOGS BE FED USING THE BARF METHOD?

Each species must eat the right food for it in order to be in optimal health. That's why cows eat grass, pandas eat bamboo, and vultures eat carrion.

Dogs and cats, as well as their ancestors, are mostly carnivores and should consume natural and natural food, such as they would find in nature. Their digestive system is designed to process and digest mostly high-protein food. The dog's menu should contain raw meat, edible bones, organs, fruits and vegetables and oils, in short, this is the BARF (Biologically Appropriate RAW Food) method. The raw feeding method provides everything your pet needs and takes care of its optimal health.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EATING WITH BARF?

A healthy and balanced diet is prevention against all kinds of diseases and the key to the full and long life of every kitten and dog.

Feeding according to the BARF method has many benefits, advantages and a positive impact on your pet:

➤ promotes the functioning of the digestive system;

➤ promotes the functioning of the urinary system and balances the intestinal flora;

➤ regulates weight;

➤ provides dental care and better oral hygiene;

➤ supports the formation of healthy and dense tendons, muscles and nails;

➤ reduces infections and inflammation;

➤ strengthens and regulates the immune system;

➤ improves reproductive health;

➤ maintains higher energy levels;

➤ increases appetite;

➤ Provides additional hydration.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH MOST GRANULES?

Regardless of the brand and price, most commercial foods widely distributed in the retail chain are:

➤ thermally processed, which kills most of the beneficial ingredients and changes the molecular composition;

➤ filled with preservatives and chemicals to maintain a longer shelf life;

➤ contains cereals, carbohydrates and starch, which are difficult for our pets to digest;

➤ contains low-quality raw materials, unfit for human consumption.

Think about how you would feel, andwho eat only semi-finished products?

And is it worth inflicting it on our pets just because it is convenient?

ARE RAW MEAT AND BONES SAFE FOR OUR PETS?

Then, when appropriate high-quality raw materials are used and strict rules and measures are followed in the preparation, processing and storage of food, the risk and danger to our pets is minimized.

Digestive system

Dogs and cats have a relatively short and acidic digestive tract that is designed to process raw and potentially bacteria-contaminated foods. The acidity of their stomach is much higher than that of humans, which helps to destroy harmful bacteria.

Natural resistance

Our pets' digestive systems have evolved over thousands of years to cope with raw and unprocessed foods. Their saliva and intestines contain enzymes and beneficial bacteria that aid digestion and protect against harmful pathogens.

High-quality sources

We at DIVUS use fresh and high-quality ingredients and raw materials that are suitable for humans to minimize the risk of bacterial contamination.

Safety practices

Strict hygiene practices and measures must be observed in the preparation, processing and storage of raw food. This includes properly cleaning dishes, regularly disinfecting food preparation areas, and following recommended guidelines for safe handling of food.

Frozen storage

Raw dog food is frozen. Freezing temperatures inhibit bacterial growth and reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
We at Divus comply with all the requirements of the HEI, and the finished products are deeply frozen at -26 degrees for at least 36 hours. A temperature at which bacteria cannot survive. To ensure the best for your dog, we take maximum care, follow best practices and adhere to strict guidelines in the production process.

IF MY PET EATS RAW MEAT, WILL IT BECOME AGGRESSIVE?

The belief that the BARF diet can lead to aggression is a myth that is not supported by scientific evidence.

Why is this myth not true?

Lack of causation

There is no direct causal relationship between feeding the BARF diet and aggressive behavior in pets. Aggression in animals can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, environment, training, health problems, and socialization.

Carbohydrates

Some commercial pet foods contain higher levels of carbohydrates, which can lead to excessive energy spikes affecting your pet's behavior. In contrast, BARF diets usually contain mostly protein and natural nutrients that are not associated with aggression.

Balanced and natural diet

The BARF diet is nutritionally complete and provides the essential nutrients necessary for the well-being of the pet. If your dog or kitten is balanced, healthy and calm, they are unlikely to exhibit behavioral problems.

It is important to remember that aggression in pets is a complex problem that requires a thorough assessment of the animal's history, environment and overall health. Aggression can often be due to behavioral problems, fear, anxiety, past experiences, or medical conditions, but not the raw diet.

HOW DO I CALCULATE MY PET'S DAILY RATION?

How much should I feed my pet?

My pet is:

Age:

kg

Note:
Recommended amount of DIVUS food per day if you do not want to change the weight of your pet.

HOW TO SWITCH FROM GRANULES TO BARF?

Any new beginning can be difficult and unclear. Don't worry, we were like you years ago, and now it's just part of everyday life for us!

Follow a few simple steps:

Stabilize nutrition

If your pet consumes different food (kibble, canned food, cooked, human food, etc.), choose one type. We recommend that you feed him only with it a few days before turning on the raw menu, so as not to cause additional stress to the digestive system.

Stabilize the body

If your pet has moments of stomach upset:

➤ Postpone the transition;

➤ Consult a veterinarian;

➤ Add probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, fiber and amino acids

For chronic digestive and stomach problems, do not postpone the transition! A change in the method of eating can solve the problem in the long run.

Load up with add-ons

Most dogs switch to BARF without any problems, but adding a probiotic will balance the gut flora and make the transition even easier.

Add a probiotic:

➤ 3 days before the hike;

➤ During the hike;

➤ 3 days after the hike

Choose the right menu

Menus suitable for hiking:

➤ Turkey;

 ➤ Chicken;

➤ veal;

➤ Horse

Turkey and chicken are easier to digest and therefore recommend them for starters. In case your pet has an allergy to them, you can choose beef or horse.

Daily ration for your dog:

Calculate your pet's daily ration by entering their age, activity and weight in our BARF calculator: https://divusfoods.com/page/kalkulator

Transition

The transition to the BARF method lasts from 5 to 14 days. Each organism is individual, so if your dog/kitten has a more sensitive stomach, extend the transition period. It is important to start with a minimum amount of raw meat. Mix the new menu with familiar food and add a probiotic.

It is recommended to distribute the daily ration into at least 2 portions (morning and evening).

Example:

Daily ration: 1 kg BARF
Transition period: 10 days

1st day: 100 g BARF (10% BARF + 90% other food)
2nd day: 200 g BARF (20% BARF + 80% other food)
3rd day: 300 g BARF (30% BARF + 70% other food)

10th day: 1 kg BARF

Defrosting and serving

We recommend thawing in the refrigerator, but it can also be at room temperature. For quick defrosting, use warm water, not microwave.

And for your convenience, we advise you to store the baton in a suitable food box.

IMPORTANT: Cold food can lead to sore throat or colds, so serve food at room temperature.

Replace the bowl with the LickiMat interactive slow-feeding mat. Your dog will engage and have fun while feeding.

Storage

Food is stored in the freezer for up to 9 months, and in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

WHAT TO DO AFTER THE TRANSITION?

After your dog eats according to the BARF method, we advise you to continue for about 10 more days with the menu you started with.

➤ When hiking with chicken, the next choice we recommend is a mix – beef, horse and chicken. It is varied, balanced and lightweight. After that, you can safely include our other full menus.

➤ When going with beef or horse, it doesn't matter which menu you continue with.

Diversity

 ➤ Growing dogs

Puppies under 9 months of age need variety on a weekly basis. The best option is to alternate 3 monoprotein menus or include our mixes with different types of protein.

 ➤ Adult dogs

For dogs over 9 months, variety is recommended on a monthly basis.

Dietary supplements

Our menus are balanced, but you can always add something more to them:

➤ For better digestion – chia, psyllium husky, pro and prebiotics;

➤ For the immune system – ready-made supplements, hawthorn, spirulina, green-lipped mussel, colostrum;

➤ For fur and skin - additives, fish, salmon oil, B complex vitamins;

➤ For organ support – natural treats  from liver, spirulina, humin, Detox supplement;

➤ For joints – additives, raw bones and cartilage, green-lipped mussel, bone broth;

➤ For teeth – raw or dehydrated animal products, oral hygiene spray

You can find almost all add-ons here.

Bones

Add raw bones to your dog's menu at least once a week to maintain good oral hygiene and clean tartar:

➤ For small breeds – bird throats and legs, chicken wings, etc.

➤ For large and medium-sized breeds – throats of large animals, ribs, tails, etc.

*Always give your dog's bones supervised!

 Carbohydrates

Dogs can digest a small amount of carbohydrates. They are added to food only in cases where your pet has a very fast metabolism and cannot gain weight. The recommended dose is 10% of the daily ration (100 g per 1 kg of BARF).

Suitable foods that contain carbohydrates:

➤ Boiled rice

➤ Oatmeal (soaked in salt water and boiled)

➤ Quinoa

➤ Sweet potato (baked or boiled)

For cats, we do not recommend adding carbohydrates.

HOW IS FOOD STORED?

Food is stored in the freezer for up to 9 months and in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
